Shatta Wale Reveals Why Did Not Perform At CAF Awards Despite Taking $30, 000

The much anticipated Confederation Of African Football  (CAF) awards came off yesterday, January 4 at the Accra International Conference Center. A plethora of dignitaries were present including, president of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Jerry John Rawlings, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings and many others

Nigerian artistes invaded the show with only two artists from Ghana performing thus Efya and Kidi. The Nigerian artistes who performed were Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Patoranking and Flavour.

Ghanaians, perhaps majority of them are not about that this and have indicated that gesture exhibited by CAF was very disrespectful.

Another discourse on social media is the sidelining of Shatta Wale even though it was advertised that he will be performing on the night.

Shatta Wale has finally broken the silence on this in an interview with Sammy Flex on Showbiz Agenda. According to Shatta Wale, he did not sign any contract with CAF. Two days ago someone contacted him by indicating that CAF is offering him $30,000 and also as a smart person he took the money. 

Shatta Wale added that he has worked with CAF before and they even sent him emails two months before the main event therefore he did understand why someone will just contact him two days to the event and give him $30,000 whiles there was no contract.

“I don’t have a contract with CAF. Nobody had contacted me. Two days to the event, then someone contacted me that CAF is offering $30,000. I have worked with CAF before and I know they don’t do things like that. Some of us should be very careful in this country. We are killing ourselves. I need to be paid well. This is my home. I have taken the money and nobody can take it from me because I didn’t sign any contract with anybody. I don’t know why somebody can just go and collect $30,000, come and give it to me and tell me to go and perform while I’ve not seen my contract,” he said. 

“When they (CAF) wanted me in Nigeria last year, they wrote emails two months to the event before we were able to seal a deal. We had a schedule. Here in Ghana, two days to the event, someone will call me and say he has $30,000, rush and come meet my manager. As a smart man, I’ll save the $30,000 first and that’s what I did. I then asked them to go and bring the contract to show who agreed that I take such an amount for a show of that nature. So disrespectful!” he added.

The maverick added that his manager convinced him to perform but what annoyed the most was when he got there he was not allowed to do the sound check because they told him the time for sound check is over so he drove off.

“We were told we can’t have our sound check because they had closed. Meanwhile, the Nigerian acts had been allowed to do theirs. I drove my car and came back home. I don’t like nonsense!” he fumed.
